Today I read Deuteronomy 11, where Moses tells the Israelites to love and obey God to be under the blessing or they will be under the curse. Today I considered that every day we make a choice to be under the blessing or under the curse.
Blessed Obedience or Cursed Disobedience
God gives the people a choice of a blessing through love or a curse through disobedience (Deuteronomy 11:1-32). Moses instructs the Israelites to truly love the Lord and follow the Lord’s rules and instructions. He reminds the Israelites of God’s wonders including having the sea swallow the Egyptian army and having the earth swallow Eliab’s sons and their possessions when in the wilderness. Moses says by following God they will continue to be able to stay in the promised land and live longer lives. The land is better than Egypt because God watches over and takes care of this land. The promised land is watered by heaven instead of by hand so that editable plants and trees easily grow along with grass and feed for animals. If the Israelites serve other gods, God’s wrath will come including stopping the rain. So, they were to always be thinking about, talking about, and even writing it on the door posts God’s instructions. Then God will make others fear the Israelites and God will give the Israelites land. The Israelites had the choice of a blessing in obedience or a curse in disobedience and following other gods.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
No one is perfect but we can choose to try to follow God’s instructions. We can think on, talk about, and do what God would have us do every day. We can consider whether God would approve of each action we take before we take it. Even as we try, we can unintentionally make mistakes but that is where our savior Jesus comes in to give us grace through his sacrifice.
What have you been doing lately to try and make sure you consider what God would want you to do before you take action?
