Today I read Deuteronomy 26, which tells the Israelites to give their first fruits and tithes along with following God’s instructions. Today I considered that the Lord wants us to remember Him and what He has done for us.

First Fruits, Tithes, and Obedience

God was instructing the Israelites to remember to give to God and obey God, even after they receive their blessing (Deuteronomy 26:1-19). When the Israelites received the promised land, they were to take the first fruits to God’s location, and say where the Israelites came from and what God brought them through. The year of tithe which is the third year, Israelites are to hand over the tithe and ask God to see them and bless Israel. Israelites are to follow God’s instructions and then God will make his chosen people above all nations.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

God wants us to remember how He has blessed us. Every year when the Israelites brought the first of their harvest to God, they recalled their history of how God multiplied them and saved them. We can also do like the Israelites by sharing what God has done for us.

When was the last time you shared with someone all of the blessings God bestowed to get you where you are now?
