John 4

Today I read John 4, where Jesus’s conversation with the woman at the well made her and the Samaritans believe Jesus is the Messiah and saving a son made people in Capernaum believe in Jesus. Today I considered that it only took one woman’s faith in Jesus to bring a whole city to have faith in Jesus when they encountered him.

Samaritans Believe From Wisdom

Jesus’s wisdom caused the woman at the well and then the Samaritans to believe in Jesus (John 4:1-45). Jesus requested water of the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus told her about her life, people being filled with living water, and a time when people will worship in spirt and in truth. The woman said she knew the Messiah would come one day and Jesus confirmed he is the Messiah. The woman at the well then went to tell Samaritans in the city and they believed. The Samaritans asked Jesus to stay. Jesus stayed and after speaking with them the city believed in Jesus.

Capernaum’s Believe From Miracles

Jesus’ healing power caused Capernaums to believe in Jesus (John 4:46-54). A nobleman approached Jesus to ask for Jesus to heal his son so his son would not die. Jesus told the nobleman to leave and that his son lives. The nobleman believed and according to his servant the son in Capernaum was healed at the same time Jesus spoke to the nobleman. The nobleman’s entire household believed in Jesus.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Women and men as individuals can have faith in Christ Jesus as the Messiah and testify about him. After others see an individual’s faith, they may try this faith in Jesus themselves and also believe.
