Today I read John 5, where after Jesus heals the man with the infirmity, a discussion results in Jesus explaining he is the Son of God, and Moses’s writings and a witness foretold of Jesus’ coming and his purpose. Today I considered that God sent his son for us to have eternal life.
Poolside Healing and Jesus’ Purpose
The poolside healing of the sick man sparked a conversation about who Jesus is and why he was there (John 5:1-47). There was a man with an infirmity close to a pool in Jerusalem waiting with other sick people to try to be the first in the water after the angel troubled the water. The first person in the water is healed. On the Sabbath, Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be healed and told him to pick up his bed and walk. Because the man moved his bed on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted Jesus. Jesus replied saying God his father works on the Sabbath then so does he. Jesus explained only doing things God has done and God handing over judgment of people including the dead to the Son for either resurrection and eternal life or resurrection and damnation. Jesus explained that Moses’ writings and God’s witness told of Jesus coming. The accuser is not Jesus. People are to come to Jesus to have life.
