Today I read John 12, where Mary anoints Jesus, Jesus is honored as king and explains his mission of light. Today I considered that Jesus brings hope and light to our lives.
Jesus Explains What’s Coming
Jesus talks about his death being necessary for his mission of light (John 12:1-50). While they were in Bethany about to eat, Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with expensive oil and wiped them with her hair. Judas Iscariot complained that the oil wasn’t sold and given to the poor knowing he was holding the money bag. Jesus told Judas to leave Mary as she was anointing him before burial. The next day since people knew Jesus was coming to the feast, they honored him as King and carried branches of palm trees to meet Jesus. Jesus rode before them on a donkey. Jesus told them his hour was coming like a wheat seed that dies before producing much fruit. Jesus explained that believing in him is believing in God and he is representing the Father. Jesus came to bring light, so people won’t dwell in darkness.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Many people understand that believing in Jesus gives hope in a loving, caring Heavenly Father that would sacrifice for His children. This Heavenly Father loves us so much that he wants to pull us out of the darkness of the law so we can exist and live in the light of grace.
