Today I read Hebrews 7, showing how Jesus is a high priest like Melchisedec was able to be a high priest without being from the line of Levi. Today I realized that understanding how Jesus is a high priest helps some individuals in their faith.
Melchisedec Then Jesus
Jesus is a priest like the order of Melchisedec. When Abraham was returning from winning the battle against the kings, he gave a tithe from the spoils of the battle to God’s high priest Melchisedec. Melchisedec was not from the priest line of Levi, who was not even born yet. High priest Melchisedec existed without that connection to Levi and was even given the tithe from Father Abraham. Christ Jesus our Savior also rose as the high priest without the connection to Levi, but with a better testament than Melchisedec. Jesus lives forever and does not need to make daily sacrifices because he sacrificed himself and is thus consecrated forever.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Every individual is different and has different parts or aspects to history and the Bible that impact their faith. Some individuals are bothered by Jesus not being from the line of Levi and still being the High Priest. Individuals may need to understand that Jesus is the priest like Melchisedec was a priest, but with Jesus’ priesthood being even more powerful than Melchisedec’s priesthood. Jesus is still alive and we can call on Jesus even today for help, guidance, and even peace in our spirits.
