Today I read Exodus 12:29-39, in which God prepared the Egyptians hearts to give to the Israelites, before their departure from Egypt. Today I considered that when you are following God’s will, He’ll have people give into your bosom (Luke 6:38) everything you need for the journey God takes you on.
An Enriched Departure
God wore Egypt down and then devastated them with the tenth plague, but also enriched the Israelites (Exodus 12:29-39). The Egyptians had suffered through nine plagues but did not soften to let the Israelites go, until after the tenth plague. At midnight the Lord killed the firstborn in the land of Egypt including people and animals, but spared the Israelites and their animals. Every Egyptian household and the prisoners in prison faced death that day. The Egyptians urgently pressed the Israelites to leave the land and take the Israelites’ animals with them. God told the Israelites to borrow valuables from the Egyptians before they left. The Egyptians let the Israelites borrow gold, silver, and clothes. The Israelites went from slaves to individuals carrying wealth as they departed Egypt.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
When God has us go on trips to do His work, God gives us instructions so we can prepare everything we need. The Israelites were slaves and may not have had warm clothes and sturdy shoes for the journey. They obediently followed God’s directions and borrowed what they needed from the Egyptians. The Egyptians had faced water issues, days without light, bothersome flies and frogs, skin issues, lost animals and family, and just wanted the plagues to stop. They knew the Israelites were leaving town, and they may never get their things back. They gave it to the Israelites anyway.
