Today I read Genesis 13 about Abraham and Lot separating to go to different lands. Today I considered that we should make God a priority wherever we travel to, investigate the area if we have a choice in location, and take all the steps God requires to receive the full blessing.
Calling on the Name of the Lord
When we are moving within God’s will, we must not forget to call out to God when we reach our destination. One of the first things Abraham did when Abraham and Lot reached their new location was to call on the name of the Lord (Genesis 13:4). Abraham knew God is important. We must also remember God’s importance and put Him first when we reach our destination.
Decisions on Location
Sometimes we need to change how we make our decisions about our location or other things in our lives. Abraham gave Lot the choice of which part of the land Lot would settle. Lot looked at the outward appearance of the land without finding out about the neighborhood. Lot chose an area close to Sodom, and the men in Sodom were wicked. Sometimes the looks of the land or location is not enough, we should investigate the truth about the area and the people.
Blessings After Separation
Separating ourselves when God tells us to will result in blessings. God told Abraham to separate from his country and his kindred or family (Genesis 12:1). Abraham had already moved. When Abraham separated from Lot, God blessed him (Genesis 13:14-16). God waited for Abraham to follow His directions on separating from both his country and kindred.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Do you pray before and after you move?
How do you make sure God is directing your move and actions?
