Today I read Genesis 14, which talks about wars between kingdoms and what is obtained in war. Today I thought about the need to be ready when facing a battle and the value of humans.
Ready Warriors
Prepared warriors are needed to free and protect people. Abraham trained some of his servants to be ready to fight (Genesis 14:14). When Abraham’s nephew Lot and Lot’s household were captured in a war, Abraham was immediately able to send forces to fight for and free Lot and Lot’s people. Regardless of the type of warrior we become (soldier, prayer warrior, etc), we have to be ready before the fight or battle begins.
Value of Labor versus Goods
Humans are more valuable than possessions. Sodom and Gomorrah lost the war including their people and goods (Genesis 14:11). Abraham returned bringing back everything and everyone. Sodom requested Abraham give them all of the people but keep all of the goods. Thousands of years ago and even today people are more valuable and precious than treasure.
