Today I read Genesis 24 about how Isaac gained his wife Rebekah. Isaac did not choose his spouse. His father’s servant chose Isaac’s spouse. Today I considered how trusted individuals can be a blessing to our lives and God can bless us beyond our spoken prayers concerning our choice of spouse.
Elder Trusted Servant
God can bless us not only in our possessions but also concerning the people in our lives. Abraham was blessed in all things (Genesis 24:1) including having a servant that he trusted with his wealth and arranging the marriage of his son Isaac. Abraham believed and spoke that an angel would go before the servant to help him and the servant was blessed in his task. The servant was trusted by Rebekah and her family to the extent that Rebekah traveled back to with him to marry Isaac. God can provide us with someone to trust but we have to make sure that person was sent by God.
Hardworking Woman
God can fulfill our requests concerning spouses and even provide more than we ask for. The servant asked for a woman that would volunteer to give water to not just him but his animals. Rebekah volunteered to water the 10 camels in which each could drink 20 gallons of water at one time. Rebekah not only was hardworking, she was beautiful (Genesis 24:16), her opinion was respected by her family (Genesis 24:57), her family blessed her (Genesis 25:60), and she was protected and cared for with a group of servants (Genesis 24:61). The servant was blessed in his task but Isaac was blessed even more to be comforted by Rebekah after she arrived. God sometimes blesses us with more from our spouses than we thought to request.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Trust is not always easy especially with so many people being told to only be concerned about yourself and not your company or even other people.
Have you ever seen a trusted employee that was really a blessing to his employer?
