Today I read Exodus 30, which talks about how to build the altar of incense, having a laver, and using holy oil and perfume in the tabernacle. Today I considered that some people do have special places or locations set aside in their lives for God and that we should think about how we treat places set up to worship God.
Altar of Incense
God had a specific altar made just to burn incense before God (Exodus 30:1-10). This altar was made with wood and overlaid with gold. Strange incense, meat, and drink offerings could not be put upon it. We should consider making a special space, clean space in our own lives for God.
Laver, Oil, and Perfume
God cared about His tabernacle. God expected them to clean themselves and use a special oil and perfume in His tabernacle (Exodus 30:17-38). A large basin called a laver was to be used by Aaron and his sons to wash their hands and feet before coming before the altar. The holy oil had a specific list of ingredients and was only to be used to anoint God’s things and not people. Also a holy perfume was made to be put before the testimony in the tabernacle and only used in God’s tabernacle. We should also consider how we clean, anoint, and deodorize our places of worship like churches so they are pleasing to God.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Some people have tables, chairs, or bookcases set aside only for things related to God like Bibles and prayer books. Others have spaces set aside like a prayer closet for prayer with God. Do you have a special space set aside for God? How about someone you know?
I thank God that many churches have a person or group that is willing to clean and deodorize the church.
