Today I read Proverbs 12, which talks about the thoughts, words, and actions of the wise and foolish. Today I considered that we should continuously work on our core foundation, be careful about our words and actions, and appreciate farmers.

The Righteous and Wise

The core of the righteous and wise is firm and productive with correct thoughts and actions (Proverbs 12:1-28). The wise listen to others, counsel peace, have joy in their hearts, and can be quiet about knowledge. Their words protect them, are productive, provide healthy counsel, and are remembered because of their truthfulness. These truthful people are a delight to God. The righteous take care of their animals and are paid for the work of their hands. We should consider our core foundation to work on it being righteous and wise.

The Wicked and Foolish

The heart of the wicked and foolish is filled with deceit with them imagining evil and stating foolishness (Proverbs 12:1-28). The fool believes he is right and tells everyone about his anger. The wicked speak harshly, their kindness is cruel, and their lying is effective for a moment but then traps them. God condemns lying and wicked actions. We should be careful with our words and actions to be honest and not focus on anger or wickedness.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

From Proverbs 12:11 I thought that we should appreciate farmers, ranchers, and people who have gardens. They are doing a good thing. I have put three versions of the passage below. What does this passage make you think about?

“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.” (Proverbs 12:11 ESV)

“He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.” (Proverbs 12:11 KJV)

“Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” (Proverbs 12:11 NIV)
