Today I read Proverbs 31, which talks about the conduct of leaders and defines a virtuous woman. Today I considered that leaders need to be sober and just. I also considered that being a virtuous woman takes time and dedication.
Conduct of Leaders
God expects leaders to sober and just (Proverbs 31:1-9). Leaders are not drunk or high. They judge fairly and remember the law. Leaders plead the cause of the poor and those in need. We should expect our leaders to be just, restrained and speak up for the impoverished.
Virtuous Woman
God describes the value and qualities of a virtuous woman (Proverbs 31:10-31). A virtuous woman is more valuable than rubies. She is trustworthy, hardworking, healthy, owns property, a business woman, takes care of her workers and household members, and gives to the poor. A virtuous woman is wise, kind, loves God, and her husband and children appreciate her. Her husband was likely respected in the town as a just leader. Women should have the goal of having the qualities of a virtuous woman.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
The truly rich and wealthy are not high or drunk. Proverbs 31:6-7 talks about giving alcohol to the poor and heavy hearted. Maybe we should be cautious so we are not among those God considers poor. Do you know any rich drunks?
Earning the label of a virtuous woman is a goal that takes time and effort. An individual has to work toward the activities described here every day and be believed by her husband, children, and those in the community. What aspects of a virtuous does a woman you know have and which ones does she need to work on obtaining?
