Today I read Zechariah 4, which was a vision that encouraged Zerubbabel to complete the temple. I considered that sometimes the actions we take now are helping our future generations.
Candlestick and Two Olive Trees
The angel explained Zechariah’s vision of the candlestick and two olive trees (Zechariah 4:1-14). Zerubbabel (Zorobabel) started the temple and was going to be able to complete the temple because of God’s spirit. God’s strength will help Zerubbabel deal with the obstacles he was facing. The vision further seems to say Zerubbabel will be one of the two olive trees which the angel said are two anointed ones giving the impression Zerubbabel would be in the lineage of Jesus. Even the visions related to building the temple point back to Christ Jesus. We need to read the Bible with the view that foretelling of Christ and Christ’s life and mission is the center of Bible.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Sometimes in doing as God asks we are pouring into our own descendents future. Zerubbabel is listed in Jesus Christ’s lineage in Matthew 1:13 and Luke 3:27. Doing what Zerubbabel needed to do then gave to his own descendant’s legacy and the foretelling of Christ.
What do you think you could do now that would positively impact future generations?
