Today I read 1 Chronicles 17, in which Nathan warned David not to build a house for God and David prayed to God. David thanked God for all that God had done and was going to do for David and his descendants. Today I considered that sometimes God has one generation establish the foundation for the next generation to be successful.

Postponed Building

David wanted to give God a house but God said wait (1 Chronicles 17:1-15). David loved God so much that he felt bad having a house of wood while the Ark of the Covenant was in a tent. Nathan told David God’s message to wait until David’s son took over. God explained not asking for a building before because He was going wherever His people dwelt and blessing them. God would establish a location in which God and His people continue to live, and that will be where to build God’s house. David was thankful to God for promising the firm establishment of David’s descendants (1Chronicles 17:16-27). Sometimes God is setting up the circumstances for stability and success, and the next generation gets to complete the task.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

In history there are so many examples of a generation of warriors fighting for a cause or for a location. Then the next generation builds on those principles or even on the claimed land. David was a warrior and God said David’s next generation would build God’s house.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes within families or even other groups you see one person provide stability and the next one their career, business, or activities go so much farther?
