Today I read 2 Chronicles 14, in which Asa became king of Judah after his father Abijah passed, and  Asa had peace in the land for 10 years. Today I considered that our peaceful times may be God giving us time to rest, build, and prepare.

God Giving Peace

A king choosing to follow God can lead to a time of peace, building, and prosperity (2 Chronicles 14:1-15). When Asa became king of Judah, he got rid of the false gods and commanded everyone to seek God. God gave Asa 10 years of peace and rest. Asa took that time to build cities, walls, and towers. Asa also had an army of mighty men of valor. Then, Zerah the Ethiopian along with a large army came to fight Asa. Asa went out to fight but cried out to God and God smote the Ethiopians. Asa and his people pursued them Gerar, destroying their cities and carrying valuables back to Jerusalem. Following God can allow you the time to rest and build up everything so that when adversity comes you are prepared and still end up prospering.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Sometimes when we have a time of peace and rest we want to just dwell in that opportunity to rest. While we do need to rest, that time may also be a time to build and prepare for what is coming next in our lives.

Can you think of an example of a peaceful time when you prepared for the next phase in your life and were glad you had that time get prepared?
