Today I read 2 Chronicles 19, in which the reforms by Jehoshaphat included putting judges throughout the land. Today I considered that the judges and leaders put in charge should be just, fair, and unbiased, according to God’s word.

God’s Sees the Good

Jehoshaphat sinned but God saw his continuous works for God’s kingdom (2 Chronicles 19:1-11). After the defeat at Ramoth-gilead, Jehoshaphat returned to Jerusalem. Jehu told him God was angry about Jehoshaphat helping those that were against God but God also saw the good in him. Jehoshaphat put judges throughout land and had Levites and priests judge in Jerusalem. Jehoshaphat told the judges they were judging for God not man, do not trespass against God, and God will be with the good.  Even if we made a mistake, God sees all of our works and can still be with us if we are working for God.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

This chapter in the Bible is very relevant today. Now is a time people are going out to vote. The most important thing to consider is how the individuals you vote for are trying to follow God’s word including being just, fair, and unbiased. No one is perfect. Jehoshaphat shows us he made a mistake but the majority of his actions were good works advocating God and God’s laws. See the passage below in the NIV and KJV versions.

“Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” (2 Chronicles 19:7 NIV)

“Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.” (2 Chronicles 19:7 KJV)
