Today I read 2 Chronicles 34, in which king Josiah repairs the temple and Hilkiah the priest discovers the book of the law of the Lord given by Moses. Today I considered that leaders need to choose the right people for the work, when we know better we should do better, and leaders should care about God’s temple.
Finding Quality Workers
Some leaders love God and will get quality record keepers, leaders, and laborers to do the work for God’s temple (2 Chronicles 34:1-13). Amon’s son Josiah became king of Judah at eight years old and did what was right according to the Lord. Around 16 years old he started seeking God. Around 20 years old he began destroying all of the idols, images, and locations that worshiped false gods. Then he sent Shaphan, governor Maaseiah, and the recorder’s son Joah to repair God’s house. They left the money with the workmen, who were faithful in their work. Jahath, Obadiah, Zechariah, and Meshullam were over the workmen. As God’s children we need to remember to find the right people who are also faithful in their work.
Finding the Book of the Law
Sometimes leaders do the best they can but do even more when they know to do more (2 Chronicles 34:14-33). When priest Hilkiah found the book of the law, he had it delivered to king Josiah. The scribe Shaphan read the book to the king and the king tore his clothes and had them inquire of the Lord concern the information in the book. Prophetess Huldah told them the Lord God will bring the curses to the land because they forsook God, but because of Josiah’s tender heart and humbling himself to God, he will die during peaceful times and not see God’s wrath. Josiah had everyone come to the temple and he read the book of the law to them and made a covenant with God to follow God with all of his heart and soul. Josiah had everyone follow the law and took away the abominations. We should try to be like Josiah and as we learn things are not right, we correct that behavior to be along the lines of what God desires of us.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
In Josiah’s time even the governor of the city was part of ensuring God’s temple was repaired. What leaders do you know that care about God’s temple?
As we grow and read God’s word we learn about what God would have us do. What have you learned about recently that you need to change in your life?
