Today I read 1 Kings 10, in which the Queen of Sheba visits Solomon and the splendor of Solomon is explained. Today I considered that God blessed Solomon with wisdom leading other leaders to turn to God and increasing Solomon’s wealth.
Visit of the Queen of Sheba
King Solomon was visited by the Queen of Sheba because of his famous wisdom (1 Kings 10:1-13). The Queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame and wealth then traveled to Jerusalem with a large camel caravan and an abundance of gold, precious stones, and spices. Solomon was able to answer all of the queen’s questions. She was impressed by his wisdom, the arrangement of his household and servants, and the happiness of his servants. The queen said it was even better than what she had heard. The queen believed. The Queen of Sheba gave Solomon gold, precious stones, and spices. The spices were more abundant than any others ever given. Solomon gave unto the Queen of Sheba whatever she desired before she and her servants returned to her country. We can use Solomon as an example of how our blessings could cause leaders and others to believe in God.
Solomon’s Wealth
Solomon had great wealth (1 Kings 10:14-29). Solomon received 666 talents of gold yearly. Solomon made shields of gold, a throne of ivory overlaid with gold, and all his cups were gold. Every three years the Tharshish navy brought gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. Everyone sought Solomon’s wisdom even bringing him precious metals, clothes, spices, horses, and mules. The kings of the Hittites and Syria gave to Solomon. Solomon increased his number of chariots and horsemen. Solomon had more riches and wisdom than all the kings on earth. We can see from Solomon how God blesses wise leaders to grow in wealth.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Who was the Queen of Sheba? Others also wonder about the queen and some have investigated her. She is believed by some to be from Ethiopia. The Queen of Sheba is noted in Britannica history online as a queen recognized by Jewish and Islamic culture but also claimed by Arabs and the Chinese. She is recognized as becoming a believer in God and birthing Solomon’s son, whose lineage reigned until 1974. The Queen of Sheba is possibly the woman adored in the Song of Songs.
What do you think about the Queen of Sheba coming to Solomon for wisdom and becoming a believer?
