Today I read Joshua 18, in which Joshua had the tribes divide the land so they could assign the inherited land and the next lot became the land of Benjamin. Today I considered you have to sometimes divide something before giving away the parts.

Division Then Inheritance

Joshua had the tribes divide the land and then cast lots with Benjamin being the next to receive their lot of land. Joshua sent three men from each tribe to look at the remaining land and divide it into seven parts for the rest of tribes to receive land. The only tribe not receiving land was the Levites because the priesthood was their inheritance. The men came back with a book describing the land and dividing it into seven parts. Joshua cast lots for the children of Israel to receive the land. The lot between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph became the land of Benjamin. The land stretched from the Jordan to the sea to the salt sea. The land was further divided so the clans or families of Benjamin received their individual land within the lot. Division was needed for inheritance.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Families and people may not realize it but for an individual to really own something it has to only belong to that individual. They understood this and divided the land, giving the clans the land. Each generation they knew to assign specific land to their descendants so they knew who inherited and owned the land.

Do you have an inheritance you need to divide and assign to the individuals so they have their specific property?
