Today I read Joshua 21, in which the children of Israel gave cities for the Levites from their inheritance. I considered that the Levites (priests and those ministering to God) received cities to dwell in after all the Israelites and Joshua received their inheritance.
Levites Given Cities
The leaders of the Levites met with the priest Eleazar, Joshua, and the leaders of the tribes of the children of Israel to ask for cities with their suburbs to live in (Joshua 21:1-45). The children of Israel gave to the Levites out of their inheritance cities with the suburbs to dwell in. The Levites were given 48 cities with their suburbs. The cities included the six cities of refuge. God fulfilled all His promises to the Israelites including giving all the land He swore to their fathers and delivering all their enemies into their hands. God fulfills all of His promises.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
The Levites ministered to God in the temple and received their dwelling places last, even after the leader Joshua. Many times I have seen the priest and the ministers go first, but in this Biblical example they are last to receive their location to dwell within. Also what the priests receive is based upon that given from everyone else’s inheritance.
What do you think about this Biblical example of how to do things?
