Today I read 1 Samuel 29, in which the Philistines dismiss David from fighting against Israel. Today I considered that even distrust can protect God’s anointed.
Protection From Distrust
Some of the Philistines knew not to trust David and it protected him from joining them in the fight against Israel (1 Samuel 29:1-11). The Philistines organized into divisions or groups preparing to fight Israel. David was with Achish in a rear group. When the Philistine princess saw David they did not trust him because he had killed their people by the thousands. Achish told David he trusted him but David had to go back to where he was staying. David and his men left early in the morning to go back to the Philistines territory. The Philistines went to Jezreel.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
The Philistines did not trust David because he fought against them before. God had given the battle victory to the Philistines because of Saul’s disobedience. This decision protected David and his men from fighting against Israel or having to fight the Philistines whom God favored in this battle.
When have you seen distrust, doubt, or lack of access to something protect one of God’s children from problems?
