Today I read Job 26 and 27, which is the beginning of Job’s last speech. Job used their arguments against them. Today I considered that sometimes you can use another person’s argument and/or actions to prove they are wrong.
Job Uses Their Argument
Job was arguing back by reinforcing what he told them and also using their words against them (Job 26:1-27:23). Job sarcastically says they have really helped the powerless and confused. God has power over hell, the sky, the phases of the moon, and the thunder. This is only a small part of God’s rule. Job says God has not given him justice but he is still speaking the truth. Job will keep his integrity even if he loses his life. Job says let his enemy and adversary be exposed. Job says he has already told them what is going on and they can see it themselves. Job gave their own words back to them of what happens to the wicked and how the wicked are destroyed to have no trace.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Sometimes the evidence that a person arguing against you uses actually helps your case. They told Job the wicked would be gone without a trace and yet they are sitting there talking to him now. Someone could be saying you are selfish and then ask to use something they borrowed from you again. Someone could say you are stupid and then call you to help them complete an application or answer a question. Remember we cannot accept every word from man but we can accept the words from God and speak life and positive over our lives.
When have you had someone speak negative but you chose to speak positive or to deny their statement?
