Today I read Job 40, 41, and 42, where the Lord rebukes Job with talk of His mighty creates, Job repents, and Job’s fortunes are restored. Today I considered that no one can compare to God’s might, God required the repentance of all those talking, and God’s child was blessed in the end.

God’s Mighty Creatures

The Lord shows examples of His might through behemoth and leviathan (Job 40:1-41:34). The Lord asked Job if he wanted to argue with God. Job said no and admitted Job was contemptible. The Lord asks Job what can he do compared to God; can Job save himself. Behemoth is an example of God creating a strong creature that eats grass, drinks a lot of water, is not afraid of storms, but God can easily lead him around. The Lord asks if Job can capture or tame the sea monster Leviathan. Leviathan has scale armor, breathes fire, swords and spears of iron and brass cannot harm him, and is a king of pride. God shows how he created powerful creatures on earth and controls them.

Job And Others Repent, Job Is Restored

Job and the friends that talked about God repented; then Job was blessed with family, fortune and new children (Job 42:1-17). Job said he dislikes himself and repents for what he said and for listening to others. God told Eliphaz and the other two they were worse than Job. They had to give Job animals to offer as a burnt sacrifice for Job to pray for them, and Job did. Job’s family and others started coming around. God gave Job twice as much as he previously had. Job had cattle and ten children. His three daughters were the most beautiful in the land and received an inheritance along with their seven brothers. Job lived long enough to see four generations born to his family.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Everyone who was talking repented. God made it clear to Job that God was the one in control and Job was not able to protect himself. God has the knowledge, and power. Job had to repent because of how he said he wanted to see the Lord in court and for going back and forth talking about God with the three friends. The three friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar) had to repent because they acted like they had the right to speak for God.

Have you ever repented for what you said related to God?

Job blessed with double for his trouble. Everything Job went through was like going through a trial of faith. Job was not perfect in facing this trial, but he continued to love and believe in God. After God pulled Job out of the trial, Job was rewarded. Job got riches, bragging rights, and long life. Job received twice what he started with in riches. Job’s daughters were the most beautiful in the land. Job lived to a ripe old age where he was able to see his great-grandchildren.

What hardship have you seen someone go that was followed by God overloading them with blessings?
