Today I read the book of Nahum in which Nineveh’s previously granted grace was taken away and their downfall predicted. Today I considered that God even gives the wicked time to repent but eventually they will experience true destruction if they do not change.

Eventual Downfall

Nahum predicts Nineveh’s downfall because of their wickedness (Nahum 1:1-15). A counselor was speaking evil against the Lord and they were still worshiping false gods. The All Powerful God who is jealous but slow to anger decided to take action. We should remember that God may spare the wicked for a while but if they continue, God will bring about their downfall.

True Destruction

Nahum describes the siege and destruction of Nineveh because God is now against them (Nahum 2:1-13). Multitudes of Nineveh’s people died, anyone looking upon the destruction ran, their men became slaves, and they received the wickedness they had created (Nahum 3:1-19). If God is against someone, their destruction can be so complete others cannot stand to even look upon it.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

While God destroys the wicked, as God’s children let’s remember that he protects us. Nahum 1:7 KJV states: The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Do you know of an incident where God protected certain people in the midst of the trouble?

Next I plan on reading Habakkuk, then Zephaniah, then Haggai.

I am happy to have made it to 100 Bible posts. I pray that you make it to 100 days of reading the Bible and that you learn a lot and get closer to God along the way.
