Today I read 1 Chronicles 3 and 4, which talks about the descendants of the families of David, Solomon, Judah, and Simeon. Today I considered that the circumstances surrounding children as they grow do impact them, God favors the faithful, and moving from the past to the future.
Circumstances Impact Children
David’s children are grouped into children born when he ruled in Hebron and children born when he ruled in Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 3:1-9). Hebron was the capital for David, and where he faced instability, until he was fully recognized as their ruler and moved to Jerusalem. Amnon and Absalom, who caused family feuding, were born in Hebron. Parents have to be careful concerning the circumstances impacting their children’s thoughts and development.
Prayer of Jabez
God grants prayers because of faithfulness and sincerity (1 Chronicles 4:9-10). Jabez was more faithful than his brothers. “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested” (1 Chronicles 4:10 KJV). We need to faithfully do the activities God wants us to do, even when we have been praying for things to take place in our lives.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Both Hebron and Jerusalem are considered holy locations but make me think of one as a place of ancestors and one as a place of future promise. Hebron is where Sarah, Abraham Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Leah are buried. Jerusalem is where Christ died, resurrected, and is expected to come again.
Have you ever moved from one place that held your past to another place that held your future?
