Today I read 1 Chronicles 9, which talks the inhabitants of Jerusalem, their genealogy and offices in the temple, and the family of Saul. Today I considered that there are so many roles within the body of Christ that many people can contribute to the ministry.

Temple Roles

The first people to move into Jerusalem were likely there because of their different roles in the temple (1Chronicles 9:1-34). The Israelites, priests, Levites, and assistants living in Jerusalem were leaders among their family units. These leaders were assigned specific roles to be over things of the temple including the gates to the temple; ministering vessels; flour, wine, and oil; treasuries; making the ointment of spices; preparing the showbread; and singing day and night. Within the family of God there are many ways to serve; each person has to find their own way to contribute.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Even if there are people continuously working in the church, that does not mean they never need a break. In 1 Chronicles 9:25 it shows that the porters sometimes rotated people every seven days. The people in the church worked as a team and relieved each other.

Have you or someone you know contributed to a ministry or the church as a relief person when others needed it?
