Today I read 1 Chronicles 13, which talks about when David intended to take the ark to the city of David but ark of the Covenant was left with Obed-edom instead. Today I considered that we change as we grow closer to God and we have to be more prepared the closer we are to God.
Incomplete Journey Because Unprepared
David loved God and wanted God’s presence with Him, but was not truly prepared (1 Chronicles 13:1-14). David asked the leaders and the congregation about gathering together to bring God’s ark from Kirjath-jearim to David’s city. Everyone was giving it their all playing instruments and singing before God as they moved. In transit one of the cart drivers put his hand on the ark, when the oxen stumbled, and God killed him. David was afraid and left the ark with Obed-edom’s family for three months. God blessed Obed-edom’s family. Instead of asking everyone, sometimes we need to prepare by following the instructions God has already given to us, or live with the interruption and incomplete journey.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
In beginning of this journey of reading of the Bible, the second book I read was Exodus. God gave instructions for even the clothes the priest would wear. Where was the preparation? David was excited and just wanted God close but sometimes we have to prepare for God to be closer to us. They needed to physically and spiritually prepare to move the ark. We also need to physically and spiritually prepare because closeness to God requires accepting changes in our lives. Sometimes we have to change our actions and our thoughts for a closer walk.
How have you or someone you know changed because of a closer walk with God?
