Today I read 1 Chronicles 29, in which David invites the people to give to the temple, they give willingly, and David prays and hands over the reins. Today I considered that David explained why support was needed, gave his own support first, appreciated everyone’s efforts, and prayed to God before handing over leadership to Solomon.

Leadership’s Vision And Example

David told the people why he wanted their support and what he had done, rejoiced over everyone’s efforts, and handed over the reins to his son. David explained that Solomon was young and the work for the temple was a lot. David gladly prepared all that he could for God’s house including metals, wood, and precious stones. Then David asked others to give. The heads of the families, princes, captains, and rulers of the king’s work gave willingly to God’s house. Everyone rejoiced over the offering. David blessed the Lord and prayed for Solomon. The congregation blessed the Lord and they sacrificed to God. They made Solomon king the second time, after David’s 40 years of leadership. David showed true leadership by explaining the vision, giving and leading by example, and appreciating everyone’s contribution.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

A good leader has a vision and also takes steps towards that vision even before asking for others to contribute.

God wants only what we willing give. Imagine how joyful they were when giving to God such that they rejoiced. Have you ever truly rejoiced over a gift or offering you gave to God?
