Today I read 2 Chronicles 7, which talks about dedicating the house of God and God’s promise to Solomon. Today I considered that in prior times everyone spent a whole week focusing on welcoming God to His house.

Everyone Contributes

King Solomon and all of Israel even to Haman and the river Egypt contributed to dedicating the house of God (2 Chronicles 7:1-10). After Solomon finished praying, heaven-sent fire consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and God’s glory filled the house. Everyone worshiped God and offered sacrifices before God. They praised God including with music and instruments. They dedicated the altar and kept the feast for seven days. They spent a whole week focusing on God.

God Grants Solomon’s Request and Renews the Promise

God grants Solomon’s prayers and warns Solomon. Solomon did everything he knew to do for God. Then God came to Solomon at night and granted Solomon’s prayer to watch, listen, and heed the prayer of God’s people who turn from evil and seek God. God will give Solomon the promises of David if he keeps God’s statues and commandments. On the other hand if they worship other false gods, the destruction of the house and lands will astonish everyone that sees it. Following and worshiping God leads to blessings but worshiping false gods leads to destruction.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Can you imagine all day long, both day and night, for seven days everyone in your town focusing on sacrificing and praising God to welcome Him to the house made for Him?

I wonder what miracles, healing, and blessings would occur if a community truly focused their time on God like that.
