Today I read 2 Chronicles 29, in which Hezekiah becomes king of Judah, cleanses the temple and has sacrifices offered to God. Today I considered that as soon as we receive leadership positions we need to praise God.

Worship God First

This king begins his reign praising God (2 Chronicles 29:1-36). Ahaz’s son Hezekiah was 29 years old when he became king of Judah and reigned 29 years in Jerusalem. Abijah, Hezekiah’s mother, was the daughter of the priest Zechariah. Hezekiah’s first month as king he opened God’s temple and repaired the doors. He gathered the priests and Levites, told them he planned on making a covenant with God, and told them to sanctify themselves and cleanse God’s house. After they finished cleaning God’s house they told Hezekiah and he brought the rulers of the city. The priests did a burnt offering and sin offering for all Israel. The Levites sang and played instruments to God, everyone worshiped God from when the burnt offering started until it ended. Then the king and everyone bowed and worshiped God. Everyone was then allowed to give thank offerings. King Hezekiah and the people then rejoiced. As Hezekiah demonstrates, when we are first given a leadership position, we should worship and praise God.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

A mother can play an important role in the beliefs of her children. Hezekiah had a father that worshiped false gods, but his mother was raised by a prophet of God. During the very first month of his reign, Hezekiah focused on God and gathered the congregation to also worship God.
