Today I read 1 Kings 6, in which it describes the temple built by Solomon for the Ark of the Covenant as God’s house. Today I considered that God’s temple was strong and beautiful.

A Beautiful House

Solomon built a strong beautiful temple with stone, wood, and gold for God. God’s house was 90ft long by 35ft wide by 45ft high. The house was made of stone. The walls were covered boards of cedar. The floor was planks of fir. Solomon had an oracle prepared inside to set the Ark of the Covenant on it. The oracle and area prepared within was covered in pure gold. He made two cherubim of olive tree overlaid them with gold in the inner house. He carved all the walls inside and outside with cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. The floor was overlaid with gold. It took seven years to build the temple. We should try to build strong, beautiful things for God.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

God’s house was not only built of stone with the ability to last, it was also a work of art. The art included cherubim, trees, and flowers carved everywhere and overlaid with gold.

When have you recently looked at a work of art and just thought of the beauty that God gave us to gaze upon through the work of our artists?
