Today I read 1 Kings 7, in which the palace buildings and the temple furnishings are described. Today I considered that Solomon was building two places, a palace and a temple. Sometimes we are working on things for God and ourselves at the same time.

A Palace and A Temple

Solomon was building his own palace and the house of the Lord, even bringing in special help for the artwork in God’s house (1 Kings 7:1-51). It took Solomon 13 years to build his own house. It had palace buildings made of stone and cedar, and a porch to sit on and judge from. Solomon brought in a skilled worker of brass named Hiram. The temple had brass pillars with pomegranate and lily work/carvings. There were large bases of brass with lions, oxen, and cherubims on the borders. The bases had molten wheels. Hiram made pots, lavers, shovels, and basins of brass. Solomon had all the vessels made for the house of the Lord. After Solomon finished he also brought in the treasures his father David had dedicated to the house of the Lord. Sometimes while we are working on things for God, we also have to work on the things to support our daily lives.
