Today I read 1 Kings 15, in which Abijam became king of Judah, Asa became king of Judah, Nadab became king of Israel, and Baasha became king of Israel. Today I considered how God told Jeroboam what would happen to his lineage and it did. God also told David he would keep his lineage on the throne and he did.

Promises as Reality

While there was overlapping of the reign of the kings of Israel and Judah, God kept his promise to David and the punishment he promised Jeroboam (1 Kings 15:1-34). During Jeroboam’s reign over Israel, three kings reigned over Judah: Solomon’s son Rehoboam, Rehoboam’s son Abijah, and Abijah’s son Asa. Rehoboam and Abijah did evil in the sight of the Lord, but God kept David’s line as the king of Judah for David’s sake. Asa did what was right and had a heart for God. He removed the idols, removed his mother as queen because she made an idol, brought in the dedicated things into the Lord’s house, but did not remove the high places. Jeroboam’s son Nadab began to reign during the second year Asa was king. Nadab did evil before God. Baasha killed Nadab and Jeroboam’s entire line and became king of Israel. Baasha then warred with Asa. God’s promises were kept through enduring the evil kings to get to Asa and through Baasha’s actions against Jeroboam’s line.
