Today I read 1 Kings 17, in which Elijah is fed by ravens, provided for by a widow, and raises the widow’s son from the dead. Today I considered that God will get the glory, and we need to walk by faith like Elijah.
Elijah’s Provision
God told Elijah where to go, God provided for Elijah, and God was given the glory (1 Kings 17:1-24). Elijah predicted to Ahab no dew or rain for years and God had him hide himself. God provided water for Elijah by the brook Cherith and had the ravens bring him food. When the brook dried up, God had Elijah go stay with a widow woman in Zarephath for provision. The widow did as Elijah said and made him a cake with the last of her meal and oil. God blessed the widow woman so that the meal and oil did not run out. She was able to continue to feed Elijah, herself, and her son. When the widow’s son was sick and died, God heeded Elijah’s prayers and brought the child back. The woman believed in the word of the Lord and that Elijah was a man of God. God was given the glory by the widow woman.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Elijah had enough faith to do what God told him to do and go where God told him to go. That is the faith we all should seek to have.
When was the last time you did something by faith?
