Today I read 1 Kings 22, in which Micaiah prophesized against going to war, Ahab was defeated, Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, and Ahaziah became king of Israel. Today I considered that God even warns those doing evil.
Lying Spirits And Warnings
Even when God put a plan in place to get rid of king Ahab, God still allowed Ahab and king Jehoshaphat to be warned (1 Kings 22:1-39). There were three years of peace between Syria and Israel when the king of Judah, Jehoshaphat, visited the king of Israel, Ahab. Ahab wanted Ramoth in Gilead back from Syria and asked Jehoshaphat to go to war with him. Jehoshaphat had them inquire of the prophets and all of them said they would win. Jehoshaphat asked if there were any other prophets and they brought Micaiah, whom Ahab said always prophesied against him. Micaiah told them they would lose and the Lord sent lying spirits to the prophets so Ahab would fall at Ramoth-gilead. Ahab had Micaiah put in prison until they returned from war. God also gives the wicked warnings concerning their behavior.
Ahab’s Death and Defeat
Ahab had heard Micaiah’s warning, disguised himself, but still went to war (1 Kings 22:29-40). Ahab disguised himself for battle but Jehoshaphat did not. The king of Syria had his army focus on killing Ahab so they mistook Jehoshaphat for Ahab. When they realized Jehoshaphat was not Ahab, they let Jehoshaphat go. Ahab was still killed in battle and buried with his fathers. Ahab’s son Ahaziah became king of Israel. Ahab had disguised himself to try to be safe but still died when he intentionally went against God’s warning.
