Today I read 2 Kings 7, in which the prophecy of Elisha predicted the lifting of the famine. Today I considered that God does not want us to doubt His power and abilities.
Death After Doubting
Elisha predicted the good news and the man that voiced his doubts died before tasting the bounty (2 Kings 7:1-20). Elisha told the king of Israel the famine would be lifted by the morning with flower and barley prices becoming cheap. The man with the king doubted and Elisha told the man he would see it but not eat it. God made the army of the Syrians to hear chariots and horses coming. They thought the king of Israel hired other kings to fight them so they fled. Lepers were outside the Syrian camp, knew the people were starving in the city, and decided to take a chance approaching the Syrians for provision at twilight. The camp was deserted so they ate and took valuables from the camp. The lepers decided to not keep the good news until the morning and told the city porter. The king sent people to investigate, found the camp abandoned, and appointed the man that was with the king earlier to man the gate. The people trampled the man to death as they went to the Syrian camp to get food and valuables. Everyone should try to believe in the power of God without doubting and try to speak positive and speak life over their situation.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Everyone faces periods of doubt that they can finish something or accomplish a goal or the situation will work out. The various doubts we have are numerous. We can turn to God’s word to see how God came through for others with whatever they needed and know God can come through for us.
What have you doubted would happen and yet God made that blessing occur?
