Today I read 2 Kings 12, in which Joash also known as Jehoash repaired the temple and sent money to stop a war. Today I considered that they way we collect money can impact our ability to accomplish our goals, and sometimes leaders will do whatever they can to avoid war.

Use of the Collection Box

The king inquiring about fixing the temple led to collecting enough money to repair the house of the Lord (2 Kings 12:1-16). Jehoash became king of Judah and told the priests to use certain collected money for repairing the house of the Lord. Years had passed and the temple was not repaired. Jehoash called the priests together and asked why the temple was not repaired. The priests consented to not receive money from the people. Priest Jehoiada boar a whole in the top of a chest and put the chest beside the altar. Enough money was collected, not including the trespass and sin money, that they paid builders, carpenters, masons, etcetera to repair the temple. Sometimes collecting money in a different way to better control its use, can lead to completing what you plan to accomplish.

Money to Stop War

The king gave up wealth to stop a war (2 Kings 12:17-18). The king of Syria planned to war against Jerusalem. Jehoash took dedicated and hallowed things for the Lord and took from the king’s treasury to give to the king of Syria. The king of Syria left Jerusalem. Some leaders do fear conflict.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

There are many ways individuals collect their money to save for tasks, vacations, or projects. Some have separate savings accounts for certain things. Others use an envelope or piggy bank or safe deposit box to save for specific events. Sometimes you have to change how you are storing your money to be able to accomplish your goals.

Do you have an example of changing how you or someone you know saving money leading to being able to complete their goals?
