Today I read 2 Kings 19, in which Hezekiah sends to Isaiah because of the threats from the king of Assyria, Hezekiah’s prayer to God, and the divine deliverance of Jerusalem. Today I considered that God protected those that believed in Him from a great army but allowed the one worshipping a false god to be destroyed by those close to him.

A King’s Faith

The king believing in the only true God was saved while the king believing in a false god was killed by his own flesh and blood (2 Kings 19:1-37). King Hezekiah tore his clothes when Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah told him the threats from king Assyria’s messenger Rabshaken. Hezekiah sent them, the elders and priest covered in sackcloth to the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah told them God would have the servants of the king of Assyria return to their land and die there. The king of Assyria threatened Hezekiah again through a letter. Hezekiah took the letter and spread it before the Lord and prayed to God to save them and show all the kingdoms He is God. Isaiah told Hezekiah that God heard his prayer. God knew they went against the Holy One of Israel and God would fight for them. God’s angel killed 185,000 in the Assyrian’s camp. The king of Assyria left and went to Nineveh to worship Nishroch and two of his sons killed him there.
