Today I read 2 Kings 25, in which Jerusalem is destroyed. Today I considered that God fulfilled even his promise of destruction because of the blood of the innocent as was explained in the prior chapter.

Promise to Destroy Fulfilled

Jerusalem was destroyed and became a wasteland (2 Kings 25:1-26). Zedekiah had rebelled against Babylon. Babylon besieged Jerusalem causing a famine in the city. The warriors fled one way and the king another at night. Babylon destroyed Jerusalem including burning houses, the house of the Lord, and taking the gold and silver. Babylon killed Zedekiah’s sons, officer over the warriors, the men in his presence, his scribe, and others. Gedaliah was put over the poor people left in the country. When he was killed the people went to Egypt out of fear. God fulfills even his promises of destruction.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

God fulfills his promises to bless his children and to destroy those that destroy the innocent. God is a promise keeper.
