Today I read Joshua 2, in which Rahab saved the two spies sent to Jericho by Joshua. Today I considered how one person’s protection got a promise of protection for her entire family.

Information and Protection

Joshua secretly sent two men to view and search the land and Jericho (Joshua 2:1-24). Jericho’s king found out and wanted the spies brought to him. Rahab, a harlot living on the city wall, hid the two spies. She then sent the king’s people the wrong way to look for the spies. Rahab explained to the spies that she knew the Lord had given them the land. Rahab told the spies Jericho was afraid because God dried up the Red Sea and they conquered Sihon and Og. Rahab requested protection for herself and her family, lowered the spies down the city wall by a red thread, and told the spies how to avoid Jericho’s king’s men. The spies agreed to protect Rahab and her family if the family stays inside Rahab’s house and lowers the red thread when they attack. The spies told Joshua everything. A leader prepared for battle with information that was gained by a harlot’s protection, and the harlot received protection for her entire family in exchange.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Rahab believed in God’s might. She used information and her location and to protect the spies and aid God’s people.

Do you know someone who has faith in God like Rahab?
