Today I read Joshua 5, in which God had Joshua to circumcise all the males of the nation of Israel. Today I considered that God made sure the children of Israel would be safe while the males were undergoing circumcision and God can also ensure our safety.
Safety Then Circumcision
God had the people fear the Israelites before making Israelite males go through the painful process of circumcision and healing (Joshua 5:1-12). All of the Amorite and Canaanite kings were scared of the children of Israel because the Lord had them pass over the Jordan on dry ground. The Israelite males including men of war had died in the wilderness before crossing the Jordan so the current males were uncircumcised. God had Joshua circumcise all the males, which was a reminder of their covenant with God. Then they stayed in Gilgal until they healed. The Israelites kept the Passover, eating the last of the old corn, and also ate unleavened cakes and manna. Manna stopped after that day and they ate the fruit of the land. God protects his children and provides for their needs as long as they have that need.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God not only protected the Israelites from the people they are going to conquer, he was providing manna while the males were healing from the circumcision. The people including the males did not have to immediately look for food. I imagine God was being merciful to the Israelites.
