Today I read Joshua 10, in which Joshua commanded the sun to stand still and conquered the south because God was fighting for Israel. Today I considered that God and allow your enemies to gather against you to fight, making it easier for God to defeat them quicker.
Gathered Enemies Defeated
They feared Israel, brought their armies to fight, but God fought and conquered the south (Joshua 10:1-43). Adonizedec, king of Jerusalem was afraid because Israel defeated Jericho, defeated Ai, and made peace with Israel with the great city of Gibeon. The king of Israel got the five kings of the Amorites and the kings of Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon to go against Gibeon. Gibeon sent to Joshua in Gilgal for help. Joshua assembled the warriors and mighty men to fight. God told Joshua He delivered them into Joshua’s hands. God killed those going against Gibeon, killing the armies of six groups of kings in one day. Joshua commanded the sun and moon to stand still and they did until the people avenged themselves on the enemies in one day. The kings fled, were found, and Joshua had the warriors step on them before he hung them. Joshua went on to destroy the cities of Makkedah, then Libnah, Lachish, Eglon, Hebron, and Debir, conquering the areas of the south, the hills, the vale, and the springs and their kings. God can let you enemy gather to make it easier for their defeat.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
The kings of Israel the Amorites, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon all had their armies gathered to fight Gibeon. God destroyed their armies making it even easier for Joshua and the people of Israel to conquer and destroy all of their cities.
Can you give an example of enemies gathering which led to the downfall of all those enemies?
