Today I read Joshua 13, in which God tells Joshua there is land yet to be conquered and it is listed how the land east of the Jordan was divided among three tribes of the children of Israel. Today I considered that God confirms what people already have when he is dividing an inheritance among his children.

Defining East Side First

God tells Joshua there is more land to be conquered but Joshua is to divide the land they currently possess by lots (Joshua 13:1-33). Joshua was old and making sure the land was divided among the children of Israel. Joshua began by considering who already had land and what land they already possessed. Moses already gave the Reubenites, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh land on the east side of the Jordan. The land and cities given to the three tribes was listed first.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Before dividing the land further, they began by listing what tribes already possessed land on the east side of the Jordan. Some parents also do this when making a will or giving their children property. They consider what they have already given to children before dividing the rest of the inheritance.

Do you have an example of parents, grandparents, or others considering the benefits they have already given when dividing the rest of the inheritance?
