Today I read Joshua 15, in which they establish the borders of Judah including listing division by clan. Today I considered that love and fear of God can lead to blessing.
Land for Judah and Others
The tribe of Judah received land but also had other people receive an inheritance and dwell among them (Joshua 15:1-63). The tribe of Judah received land that extended from the border of Edom to the river of Egypt to the salt sea (Dead Sea) to the end of the valley of the giants to the great sea (Mediterranean Sea). The land included wilderness, valleys, mountains, and springs. Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak and inherited land from Judah’s portion of land. Caleb promised his daughter Achsah to the person who conquered Kirjath-sepher (Debir). Othniel then conquered Kirjath-sepher. Achsah asked for a blessing of springs and Caleb gave it to her. The land of the tribe of Judah is further divided by clan. Israel could not drive out the Jebusites and they dwell with the children of Judah in Jerusalem. The tribe of Judah’s land included others that loved God and feared God.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Someone who loved God and someone who feared God dwelt among those of the tribe of Judah. Caleb followed God (Joshua 14) and received the inheritance. Abimelech feared God and had Abraham make an oath to be kind to Abimelech and his descendants (Genesis 21:22-24). The Jebusites descended from Abimelech.
Caleb who loved God and his descendants got more, an inheritance among the children of Israel. Abimelech who feared God also received something precious, safety for his descendants.
Do you choose to love and follow God or just to fear him?
