Today I read 1 Samuel 9, in which Samuel meets Saul because Saul was looking for some donkeys. Today I considered that sometimes God uses other things to get us where he wants us to go.
Mission Found, Instead of Donkeys
Saul is looking for something else when Samuel meets him (1 Samuel 9:1-27). A mighty man of power named Kish had a son named Saul who was taller than any of the people. Kish’s donkeys were lost so he sent Saul and a servant to look for them. They traveled far and were gone three days looking for the donkeys. Saul said they should go back so his father did not worry. The servant said they were close to where a man of God was that could help them. God warned Samuel that Saul was coming. Saul and the servant found Samuel. Samuel told them not to worry because the donkeys were found, and Israel’s desire was on Saul. Saul answered he’s from the smallest family in the smallest tribe of Benjamin. Samuel had Saul and his servant go with him to a high place to worship, and sit in a place of honor to eat food Samuel had specially set aside. As Saul and the servant were leaving the city, Samuel said he needed to talk to Saul alone. Saul did not find what he was looking for but was about to be told of another mission.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God can get us where He wants us to go without us knowing the full purpose for that journey. Saul thought he was looking for donkeys but God had him there to meet the prophet Samuel.
Have you ever went somewhere looking for one thing and found something even better?
