Today I read 2 Samuel 4, in which everyone was scared because Abner was dead and Saul’s captains cause the murder of Ishbosheth. Today I considered that David did not have a cruel heart and sought righteousness even after battling people. I also considered that Jonathan’s line might have been protected because Mephibosheth had a disability.

Saul’s Line Was Not Gone

Saul’s line seemed gone but there was one person left among Jonathan’s children (2 Samuel 4:1-12). Everyone in Israel was afraid because they heard their leader Abner was dead. Saul’s captains Baanah and Rechab killed Saul’s son Ishbosheth while he was lying in bed during the hottest part of the day. They took his head to David saying they had killed all of Saul’s seed because he was David’s enemy. David said it was not good tiding of the messenger killing Saul and even worse of them killing a righteous person. David had the two captains killed. Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth was still alive with a lame foot from his nurse falling when they were fleeing to safety.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Have you ever considered something like a disability or handicap actually being protection?
