Today I read Job 1, about Job and his background and God allowing Satan to test him by taking everything from him. Today I considered why God allowed Job who loved God to be tested by Satan maybe because of his fear.
Job Looses Wealth and Children
Job was a man that lived right and was blessed by God but God allowed him to be tested by Satan (Job 1:1-22). Job was an upright man, the greatest man in the east with seven sons, three daughters, plentiful sheep, camels, oxen, and donkeys. After the days of feasting, Job offered burnt offerings for his children just in case they had sinned and cursed God. When the sons of God and Satan came before came before God, God asked Satan if he had thought about God’s servant Job. Satan said God was protecting him but if he lost everything he would curse the Lord. God gave Satan permission to touch everything but Job. Satan had all of his cattle taken or burnt with fire from heaven and his 10 children killed. Job tore his clothes, shaved his head, worshiped God, but did not sin.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God was protecting and blessed with Job all his riches and 10 children. Job sacrificed animals to God for each child in case they had sinned. This sacrifice was not to honor, worship, thank, or praise God. The sacrifice was born of fear to protect his children from their possible sin. God then allowed Satan to take and/or kill all of Job’s animals and children. We are not to sacrifice to God out of fear.
Do you know anyone who sacrificed to God out of fear and then experienced trials of faith?
