Today I read Job 2, where Satan’s second request to God to allow him to harm Job’s body was granted. Today I considered that even sickness can be a trial God allows you to go through and your spouse matters.

Trial of Sickness

God allowed Satan to further test Job by harming his body (Job 2:1-13). There was another day when the sons of God came before the Lord and Satan came also before the Lord. God pointed out to Satan that he let Satan take everything from Job but he was still upright and God’s servant. Satan said Job would curse God if God allowed Satan to hurt Job. God said okay but spare Job’s life. Satan put boils upon Job’s whole body. Job’s wife said to curse the Lord and die. Job’s three friends Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar heard about Job’s loss, came, did not really recognize him so tore their clothes and put dust upon their heads, then sat next to him for seven days.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Your spouse matters when you are going through a trial of sickness by God. Job had just lost all of his children and was in mourning. His wife was also probably mourning her lost children. When Job was struck by boils, his wife told him to curse God and die. She could have ministered to Job, prayed to God, or sacrificed to God, but she chose the opposite. As I said previously your marriage partner’s faith matters. Job was strong enough to not listen to her words this time and said she was foolish. People do not want to face sickness and have to have enough faith to overcome their spouse’s negativity also.

Consider your spouse or potential spouse, is the person someone who would pray for you and encourage you through sickness?
