Today I read Job 18, in which Bildad reproves Job. Today I considered that true friends do not intentionally hurt you when you tell them you are in pain and lacking hope.

Bildad Tries to Hurt Job

Bildad shows his anger and gives examples of the wicked being punished by describing Job’s situation (Job 18:1-21). Bildad asked Job how long he’ll continue to respond back. Bildad feels insulted like Job called them beasts. Bildad describes the fate of the wicked including falling into traps, the robber winning, loosing strength and even his skin’s strength, facing horrors, losing confidence or hope, and not having sons or nephews still alive.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Bildad knows Job is in pain from the loss of his children, cattle, wealth, and health. Bildad describes the wicked as someone being punished to lose all of these things. Bildad is trying to hurt Job with his words. A real friend will not go out of their way to hurt you. The Bible says “A friend loveth at all times” see Proverbs 17:17.

Have you had someone go out of their way to hurt you? Do you still consider them a friend?
